As a writer, it was important for me to acknowledge and celebrate the life of my grandmother, Bama. Writers always acknowledge transitions and important points in the lives of our family and extended family with paintings. I remember our brother Raven rocking the city with the names of each of his children when they were born.
This is a really sacred time for my grandmother. She is getting ready to take the journey back into the universe. I wanted to do something to honor her presence in my life that she could see while she is still here with us on earth. I painted this for her on Friday night and my dad showed her the photos this morning. She always asks me to sign my work and do something that she can read. I hear that she really liked it.
You can visit this mural at Park and 18th. We will be lighting candles there when she finally makes her journey. I am glad she was able to see this and honored to be able to share her life with you.
One Love.
